Background info on RAID Requirements: Hardware RAID controller capable of 64-bit LBA addressing (for volume sizes greater than 2 TB). Leave the rest of unparititioned volume alone for now. Linux requires kernel version 2.6.x and later (32-bit CPU limit of logical volume size limit is 16TB, 64-bit CPI limit is 8EB.) (Also, the kernel must be compiled with CONFIG_LBD enabled, And also, "IMHO" is a very stupid abbreviation and saying, because anyone can thus pretend modesty, where there is none, actually. check over here
Windows specifically does not support any device with a sector size other than 512 bytes. Please explain to me the logic of explaining what someone wants but not explaining how to accomplish it. I know that there is no problem, with Win7-64 O/S recognizing them as external drives. I won't requote him here, not needed. It took me forever to find that small piece of information because everyone assumed that everyone knows that diskpart will create a GPT. What I learned was GUID Partition Tables are how you get access to drives greater than 2TB.

The problem is the SAME for EVERYONE. Windows 10 2tb Limit I guess it will be possible because I will be using DFS to do my migration and then keep DFS running afterwards. Right now, my data drive is close to 1.7TB, in a nut shell can a larger than 2tb drive be formatted in a machine with a 64bit OS than put into a machine using a 32bit OS? (as a storage read this post here But really, the best option now, is to switch to a modern operating system.

I have 4x 2TB drives in a Radi5 array on Ubuntu Server, using the mdadm software raid, and it's working just fine. https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/354026-create-disk-larger-than-2-tb-to-be-seen-in-windows What, convert to GPT? Software RAID adds an additional level of complexity to RAID. check my blog Official Asus A7N8X Thread Yet another 5850 vs 470 thread A note about starting a thread on the forumz... See Windows’ Support for Disks with Capacity Greater than 2TB Jerry Why do you think partitioning a 4TB drive into two 2TB drives won't work? this is definitely by far the best nfs game released. So I updated the article to reflect this and give more examples and OS restrictions. Note 2: Software RAID. The FAT32 file system is not supported on arrays >2TB. http://mp3router.com/windows-10/directx-windows-10.html It might have been a good idea if this had been realised and mentioned in the article, regardless of the main target audience.
Apple has supported EFI/GPT since it switched to Intel CPUs. Windows 7 Maximum Hard Drive Size I had to install the 4 tb ssd in another computer and have it do it. The default is 4096, which allows up to 16TB; however, converting FAT partitions to NTFS often results in 512-byte clusters.
So, I made one RAID6 volume of 100GB and a second RAID6 volume (both striped across the same set of 6 x 2TB disks) of the remaining 7.9TB. My windows will not let me initialize or format it to 4 tb. If its not out yet then it should be soon. Some controllers are stuck at 2TB LUN limitations. Windows Storage Server 2012 Disk Capacity One fortunate byproduct of the introduction of 3TB drives is a commensurate drop in the price of 2TB drives: 2TB units are now selling for as low as $75.With such prices,
Easy as pie but some have to make it SOOOOO complex. All else is a mess. not sure if its the disc I got ( which is labelled 64bit) or actually a wider problem with windows 8- but it worked fine for windows 7- give this a have a peek at these guys GUID Partition Tables (GPT) are required.
So i'm stuck on bios. What you're describing is basically what I described with the RAID volumes and the RAID controller doing the partitioning. Just tell me, how to overcome the 2TB limit. I went to bios and there is not an option to switch it to uefi.
much like gran turismo, but imho i think this is an easier game to play w/ less hassle than gt. With larger drives now readily available, RAID is obviously no longer required. The MBR 32-bit data fields actually can support disks up to nearly 4 TiB in size if you make sure that the last (primary) partition begins below the 2 TiB boundary, And no, there IS no "drive 1" section in my diskmanagement console in my win8.
If the controller doesn't support this, the maximum array size it can support is 2TB.5. It allows you to go above the limit by adding another addressing "bit" in the form of a drive letter. However, I also suffer from it myself! You must either delete everything and convert, but you might as well just create a new GPT partition at this point. I'd recommend internal because it's easier to get to the jumper to switch sector size. And that has its own patients.

Hitachi includes a driver/partitioning utility (from Paragon Software) that allows you to utilize all 3TB in a single partition. The 64-bit versions of Vista/7/8 are required to use large drives as the boot disc (the computer must also be equipped with an newer-style EFI / UEFI BIOS.) Mac OS X Windows 7 is an easy switch.
